Dang, I wrote this longass post on my phone about how AOTY is free to enter in 2022, then hit the wrong button and it disappeared. So, I’m starting over and this post will be much shorter haha.

AOTY is free to enter in 2022. I will renew everybody’s account from 2021. If you’re new, create an account on the AOTY website then send me a PM or reply to the 2022 Participants List post, and I will activate your account: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=97376.msg1091617#msg1091617
If you have an old/expired account and want to get back into the game, let me know, so I can activate your old account.

This means we will not have a bunch of awards. But we will still solicit/accept prizes as donations, from sponsors & partners. And we will continue the 20+ year tradition of Piscean redwood plaques for First Place, even if I have to buy them myself.

I hope this encourages more folks to participate. It will absolutely make you a better angler. And a better photographer (yes we will still be judging the entries).

That's pretty awesome Pat!  I'd like to donate some money to help pay for the awards that Sean makes for AOTY each year.  They are the best prize IMHO, and I've been wanting one for a _long_ time.

Here is to 2022 AOTY!  I'm ALL in this year  :smt003

I was going to make 2021 my last year, but I had such a shity fishing year, I can't end it like that. Count me in for 2022. I'm not sure how we do it, but I'm definitely in for donating money. One of the things I liked about AOTY was that the money was going to someone who could really use it. Hope there's a way to keep that going.

Any additional species this year to add more flavor to the mix? There's still one more saltwater species than freshwater so.... Not everyone lives at the coast so another freshwater species would be nice to balance it out.  :smt001

Hi Pat,

I donated to this great website last year and will do the same this year.  I'll be retired this year and hope to be able to fish more, so please add me to the AOTY 2022.

Sounds like it will be a fun year with a lot of participants. I’ll donate some money to help out with awards and prizes, and I’ll throw together some prize stuff to donate from myself and sam_elliott as well. We’ve both had a lot of fun competing over the years so it’s the least we can do.

Right on, next step is to order the 2021 Aoty & Doty Awards and begin planning a proper Awards Ceremony for the 2021 competition. In the past, we’ve done it at Berryessa, Clear Lake, Lake Chabot, O’neill Forebay, HMB, and some other random places. I/we are open to suggestions. It would obviously have to be outdoors and adhere to local ordinances (covid). Maybe in late March or early April? [rockfish opens April 1 down here]

Part of my decision to make Aoty free in 2022 was the fact that we haven’t needed to generate funds to help our extended kayak-fishing family for a couple years. The Pay It Fwd spirit is still alive and I know you guys will rally hard if we ever need to help one of our own again. PIF isn’t going anywhere—it just isn’t getting an influx of $500-800 from Aoty/Doty entry fees. It will be fine. :-)
