Hello All.  My name is yup..Brian.  I live in the Washington Tacoma area now but will be moving back to Bakersfield Ca. in March.  I just wanted to let you all know that I will starting up a chapter of Heroes On the Water (HOW) down there when I return.  I have been running the Washington chapter for the last 5 months and have had a tremendous amount of help by the Northwest Kayak Anglers (NWKA) crew and the local community.  In the last 5 months we have held 5 trips putting more than 90 combat wounded soldiers, firefighters, police officers etc on some awesome fishing and more importantly allowed them to enjoy a day on the water.  None of this would have been possible if not for people stepping up and giving back to the sport that we love so much.
I'm just starting this topic to get some ideas for next year and perhaps scrounge up some support.

for more information on Heroes On the Water (HOW)  see:     http://www.heroesonthewater.org/

or find us under Kayak Anglers Society of America  http://apps.facebook.com/causes/beneficiaries/45671?m=370a5b0b

Thanks everyone for your interest,
Brian

Sounds great what about a Tourney where you pair up with a Vet like a Pro/Am best combined catch. They would get a Kick outta Mooch
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Yep its a disease!! (just ask my wife)  Just when you think you have it all under control....WHAM! you just bought your third Kayak and have enough tackle to make an underwater Las Vegas

Its a little conflicting to see guys/gals out on their new kayak a week or so after we take them out.  One part of me is like "right on!"  the other part is like "poor guy...welcome to the Madness :smt004"

We have done a couple events that were "pro-am style"  I love that format the best..We finish the day with a weigh-in (fish are released, guide records the fish weight/species on paper)  We give extra points for limits, biggest, and most species caught.  Then we have  an award ceremony for first, second, and third place.  The guide who brings in the winning team usually wins a sweet rod or something nice for their kayak.  Then lastly we go around the group where the teams take turns sharing their experiences.

Then we finish off the day with a BBQ then the guides all get together and go over the goods and Bads of the day so we can make each event better and better..

Thanks for all the interset guys!!  This will be an awesome first season for CA. HOW I'm sure!

B's got the Madness big time and you guys are lucky getting him as a member next year. Probably one of the most giving kayak fishermen I've met in a long time. Looks like HOW will have a good home in Cali too.

AA Business ExtrAA
You can earn  Flights for our Heroes on the Water!

American Airlines provides a way for supporters to help us move injured troops  around the country to Heroes on the Water events.

Here's how it works-

When you book flights at www.aa.com HOW wins!
Choose your flight and your next step is to put in your personal information
At the bottom of the "Passenger Detail Page" is a block labeled "Business ExtrAA"
By entering the following number - 802853 - in the "Business ExtrAA"  block,  HOW will receive points per dollars spent for AA flights.
Heroes on the Water can apply these points toward air travel for injured service members

Adding this number adds points for HOW in addition to your Frequent Flyer miles. It does not impact your miles.
