I think I'm gonna hit Pyramid on Saturday at the Marina, possibly Warrior Point.
Looks to be calm and sunny with temps in the 50s to 60s.
Some FnS people are going to be there.
Some large fish have been caught with several 20 pounders.

I'm jealous! If I wasn't going to going to the forebay on Sunday, I'd join you. Best of luck!

Large spoons in green are the ticket. 60 ft down in 80 feet of water. We got over 30 fish on one of our boats yesterday. Wind was funky in the AM at 7 MPH from the south but turned beautiful midday

Well it was the worst I've done at Pyramid in 6 trips. I've never gone in October before. I think the lake is turning over with some fish shallow but many still deep.
I met up with a larger-than-expected FnS gathering. The few that fished the day before did better, but on Saturday it was tough for everyone with the largest fish only 25.5" and most in the 14"-20" range. Several people skunked.

I fished 10'-40' deep in 15'-60' of water and ended with 2 small (I had never caught trout that small at Pyramid) 15" trout in the boat, lost 4, 2 of which felt bigger but not huge.

But the Fresh n Salty know how to party and the food they shared was some of the best I've ever had. Perfectly marinated ribs, roast tri-tip, gumbo, fish chowder, some amazing Vietnamese beef stew (Bo Kho), some unique and tasty deserts, plus Len's Bar including excellent Lemon Drops and Rob Roys, Margaritas, etc.. Then after dinner we drove to a separate beach and they set off some amazing fireworks that they sell at the Marina store.

Sounds like a good time, even if the fishing wasn't great.  Thanks for sharing Joe!

Sounds like a fun trip. Last year in October we were fishing 60-80 feet deep in water that was over 100 deep. There were some small fish shallower, but the action for big fish was deep.

Jigging? Do those deep water fish get barotrauma? Do they need to be descended?
I like the winter shallow-water bite.

Thanks for the report Joe!  Too bad bigguns didn't come out for you to play.  Cool to hear that some groups still party down like NCKA.  I hope to join ya some time for a pyramid run, it looks like a fun place to fish, and would love to catch one of those big ones.

Both trolling big spoons and plugs as well as jigging big spoons. All the ones I caught swam away easily on their own. No signs of trauma. A descender wouldn’t be a bad idea, but I never needed one.

Salmonids are generally not susceptible to barotrauma because they can purge air from the swim bladder to the stomach.

Landing/not handling matters much more. I've seen pictures of some clowns manhandling dozens of LCT with lip grippers and putting the fish on deck at Pyramid. Allegedly like, 70 fish in one trip. Now that's high mortality CnR.
