Looks like I will be headed down to join the fun. Need to refresh most of my gear after being dry docked for so long. I'll be sure to play up the newbie card with fresh smelling gear.

I was contacted by 2 local media. The Monterey Herald and KSBW. They might be there to take some shots maybe make the news! 17 years of the MBK derby with only missing a few years. This one is going to be a big one. I know I say that every year but there are not many ocean tournaments this year so they have been funneled to ours. We also got the legend Johnny Abalone to be our BBQ master!

I'm planning on booking Friday night at Laguna Seca. Anyone want to split a site? It's $64 for 1 vehicle with no elect/water, but $15 more for 2nd vehicle or $40 each. They say 1 tent, but mine is small so I think a 2nd small tent should be fine. I might fish Friday afternoon if weather allows.

Have you ever stayed at Monterey Veterans Memorial Park? It's closer to MBK and has hot showers. I've never stayed at laguna seca yet to compare between the two.

It’s first come/non-reservable. I assume it could fill up and then I’d be left out. Laguna Seca has bathrooms and showers but no potable water. It’s about 20-30 minutes from MBK. A few kayakers will be there.

Ah gotcha. It's a nice 5-7 min ride from Veteran to MBK if you ever get a chance to stay there.

Was hoping to make it down to hang out with my dudes on Saturday, but my daughter has a basketball game on Friday evening and a soccer game Saturday afternoon.

Still working on it, but if I can't make it - good luck and calm conditions to everyone.
