Pics and details!!!

Throwing topwater and swimbaits for monster peacocks in tbe amazon has been on my list since I was a kid. I was hoping to do this trip in 2024 but it’s looking like 2025 may be the year. Who did you book through? Any advice on timing, gear etc?

i think 2025 would be a better year.  that is the year i am hoping to to back.. it would allow time for me to save up more money.   fishing is during the dry season, but oddly that season appears to be moving.  i went Oct1.  i was told by locals, that the water levels are more like past Decembers.  the last two trips of my guide were postponed due to low water.  fishing, you can see up on the bank, the best cover.  they predict better water levels in 2025.  but i am gonna watch it like a hawk.

i am on the fence about booking with the same outfitter.  he is an awful business man, but he does have access to a great waters.  most people fish Rio Negro..this guy goes down a totally different rivers system.  we were alone.  but fishing was tough.

i brought my own reels and used his rods.  next time, i will bring my own rods.  his are heavy.  fishing is strenous.  like crossfit strenous.  i am gonna jog before my next visit.  get my cardio up.  i just made a youtube vid that explains some of it.  the topwater hits will ruin you.  my love of largemouth bass has gone way down.  hahah..

the travel sucks.  flying home i was darn near awake for 36 hours.  i was a zombie and i caught a cold easily.   i will stay overnight halfway next time.  maybe in panama.

This has been my dream trip ever since I was a little kid watching Bill Dance on tv in the Amazon, catching peacock bass.

Yeah, that's on my bucket list too. Peacock Bass are one of my favorite fish. I was thinking of getting one for my aquarium, but at 90 gallons, it's a bit small.
Florida has some smaller ones up to maybe 5 lbs and is a much shorter flight. I did a little fishing out of Iquitos several years ago as a stopover from a family trip to Chile, but no bass were seen, we just caught Piranha, a small wolf fish and an Oscar.

I would really like to catch one on a fly rod.

on one crappy fishing day in the rain forest, i was annoyed.  the guide asked me how we did.  just some dinks.  i said, "hell, i could have caught those in Florida!"  hahhaha...

the next day my guide took us to a new place and it was game on!!
